Paid Holidays

Is your company giving employees a day off for the 4th of July, which is on a Sunday; Christmas Day, which is on a Saturday; New Year's Day, which is also on a Saturday and the day after Thanksgiving off? And are these days paid?

Does your company policy say that if a Holiday should fall on a Saturday or Sunday we will have the Friday before or the Saturday after off for those days?

What is your company size?

• Our holidays are like Balloonman's. We are a small office though, and if 100% of employees vote for it, we close the office the day after Thanksgiving. Employees use accrued leave time instead of getting holiday pay.

Good luck
• We have a little over 100 employees at our location. We are giving the employees either the day before or the day after the holiday off with pay since the holiday falls on a weekend day. Part of our benefit package is 9 paid holidays per year and our handbook states this.

Hope this helps!
• We gave (and will give next year) a "floating holiday" to employees to cover Christmas and New Year's. We are closed July 5.
• 200+ Saturday holiday is the Friday before, Sunday is the Monday after. The day after Thanksgiving is a holiday and all are paid. We normally work only Monday through Friday.
• Corporate wide we have @ 1000 employees but at my location we have approx 125. We receive the day after Thanksgiving off, as well as if a holiday falls on Saturday we receive Friday off and if it falls on a Sunday, we receive the Monday off. All are paid.
• we have about 2500 ee's and we have sections that operate 24/7. For a majority of staff we are closed the day after Thanksgiving. We will also be closed July 5th.
• For the 4th of July we will have the following Monday off. Our policy states if the holiday is on Saturday, the holiday will be observed the day before on the Friday and if the holiday falls on Sunday we observe it the next day on Monday.

Yes, we do receive the Friday after Thanksgiving off as a paid holiday. Our company size is currently 130.
• Forty-five thousand employees. Yes, Yes and Yes. If a holiday falls on a weekend, we either observe it on Friday or Monday. We reserve the right at each location to float the holiday but nobody misses it no matter when it falls.
• LAST EDITED ON 05-12-04 AT 12:50PM (CST)[br][br]We are a bank with 170 ees. We generally follow the holidays of the Federal Home Loan Bank. (Our monetary mother ship). Their holiday schedule gave 7/5 for 7/4 but totally disregarded 12/25 because they are always closed on Saturday (they are also closed Sundays to but didn't seem to fit into their logic). We are giving employees who regularly have Saturday off (main office staff) a floating holiday for 12/25 to be used within the last quarter of the year. Not that I expected to many, but I didn't want every resignation this year to take the holiday before they left. Employees who generally work Saturday (Branch staff) will have the Saturday as the holiday. We will most likely do the same for 1/1, but won't make that decision to the last quarter. We work an extra long day the day before and after Thanksgiving (have to be available for all the shoppers needing funds - also the first day to offer holiday loans!)
• 600 ee's. Holiday falls on a weekend, we observe it as a paid holiday either Friday or Monday. Day after Thanksgiving is a scheduled workday - ee's must use vacation or floating holiday if they want it off.
• 250 union employees, 40 office employees (who benefit from the holiday schedule in the union contract). We run 24/7, but the union contract specifies that holidays falling on Saturday will be celebrated on Friday, and those falling on Sunday will be celebrated on Monday. A few years ago, we tried to convince the union to let the "continuous shift" employees take Easter Sunday as the paid holiday in lieu of Good Friday, but they refused.

This will be an interesting year - the contract allows paid holidays on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, in addition to Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Since the main holidays fall on Saturday, the contract provides for Friday off, but Friday is already a paid holiday - hmmmmmmmm.

Yes, the day after Thanksgiving is also a paid holiday. We have 11 paid holidays, including, believe it or not, President's Day. No, we're not a bank, but a manufacturing company!

Our company policy is - holidays that fall on Saturday, off on Friday - holiday on Sunday, off on Monday and day after Thanksgiving is a paid holiday we also get 1/2 off on Christmas Eve.

Our company is in 42 states and have about 4,200 employees - although I have worked for a company with 15 employees that had the same schedule minis Christmas Eve.
• We have 1000 ee copr. wide at my location we have 180. We are in the automotive ind. so we are in our summer shutdown during the 4th and Christmas shut down from Dec 23 to Jan 2. We have the day after Thanksgiving off and paid all other days fall either on a Friday or a Monday.
• As I understand the Laws - If a federal Holiday falls on a Sunday - It must be celebrated on a Monday. (July 4th)
If a Holiday falls on a Saturday, then that is the day that it is celebrated. Companies have the option of paying a 6th day of pay, or celebrating the day on Friday / Monday. Concerning day after Thanksgiving, all over the map. We will work a skeleton crew.

Cheers,
• 200+ employees. Saturday holiday is the Friday before, Sunday is the Monday after. The day after Thanksgiving is a holiday and all are paid. Most employees work only Monday through Friday. 13 paid holidays yearly.
• 27 employees. We allow employees to choose either the Friday before or the Monday following when one of our 7 holidays falls on the weekend. The day after Thanksgiving in not a paid holiday but we do allow all staff to take the day off with or without accrued vacation pay. We also give 1/2 day off on Christmas Eve.
