Training Budget

Our company is starting departmental budgets (which I have not done before) and I have been asked to come up with an H.R. budget. The budget is to only consist of training that I might need and training that I might provide to our employees in house on human resource related issues (harassment, perf evaluations, etc). This seems like my budget is going to be very small (which I guess is okay). We have approximately 130 employees. I was wondering does anyone have a template or outline that they use when presenting their hr budget to upper mgt, or does anyone have any budget suggestions? I don't want my budget report to appear not well thought out. Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Tina!

Each year I prepare a budget for training. The first thing I do is look through the required training: OSHA (if it falls in your department), Sexual Harassment, management classes, etc. Look for the material you will need. You can order many of the booklets from BLR or other vendors or you can produce your own material. Attach documents that support your budget request. This should get you pretty close to what your company is asking for.

The second item in my training budget is for the training I will specifically receive. Include the cost of seminars, travel, meals, materials, etc. I try to attend an Employment Law Update each year and any courses related to recent trends.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you for the info. I'm starting to prepare something on an excel spreadsheet; hopefully it will be acceptable since there was no format specified. Thanks for your input!
