It is unfortunate that your employee is playing the medical documentation game, however, with medical documentation identifying the illness as a staph infection, you may want to let this occurrence go by. Years ago, a young female employee went to the hospital for a procedure where she contracted a staph infection. She died within two days. I guess I am sensitive to documented staph infections.
If your employee's absences are chronic, there will be another circumstance outside of a documented illness that will warrant and support termination.
