Training on sexual preference and cultural sensitivity

Has anyone included tolerance of sexual preference and/or cultural sensitivity into thier ethics training? If so, do you have any slides or guidance as to how to best approach these two topics?

The only thing we have added is a video called "Village of 100." This is a great video on tolerance and understanding. I highly recommend it to everyone.

If you can afford to spend some money, then I would go to HRtools.com and buy the video called Respect In the Workplace: Avoiding Discrimination. It is an excellent video that covers all of those issues and it is done in a "not so cheesy" way.

Thank you for the suggestions. The problem I have is that there is not a big budget and I would have to have a video for every location - over 100 seperate facilities.

Do you offer an EAP program to your employees? If you do, they should be able to provide you with some materials. As a side note, you may want to call your training sexual orientation rather than sexual preference. Some people may be offended because preference implies a choice. Here in NY we recently added sexual orientation as a protected group and thus have added the wording to our applications and non-discrimination policy.

Good call - we will use sexual oreintation rather than sexual preference. It didn't even occur to me that we could offend our assocaites.

At least you won't be offending the sexually oriented. Now, you'll only be offending the Baptists who think it's a preference and not an orientation. Why not call it Human Sexuality? Or sexual tolerance? Or tolerance?

I think Don D may be onto something. Tolerence training sounds good to me. We have a training coming up and we called it Appreciating Differences. Unfortunately our training department has not given out the materials at this point. As soon as they do I'll try to get you a copy.

And be sure to steer cleer of the psychology/psychiatric periodicals and textbook treatments on behavior that label such as sexual deviancy or deviant behavior. But, you should expect to hear this from some participants in your sessions.
