Must we pay mileage reimbursement to employees (who work from home)when they are asked to attend a staff meeting or conference, etc.? Thank you.

How far do they travel? We reimburse employees who travel over 50 miles (one way) for trips to the corporate office.

If the meeting/conference is where they would be working if they weren't allowed or able to telecommute, no. If it's elsewhere, yes.

Employers are not required by law to reimburse employees for the business use of their personal vehicles. However, many employers choose to reimburse for the wear and tear on employees’ vehicles. For convenience, many employers use the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) optional mileage allowance which is currently 36 cents/mile. It is up to the employer to determine appropriate reimbursement scenarios.
