Turnover Ratio Calculation

Help!!!

The person who was calculating the turnover ratio for my company has left and it's been a long time (years) since I had to calculate the turnover ratio. For the life of me I can't remember the calculation. (Yes - I'm getting senile in my old age. Do you think that can be considered a disability?)

Does anyone have the calculation handy who is willing to share? Thanks!!!

The most common calculation is to divide the number of terminations by the average employee count during the period (month, quarter) and move the decimal point two places to the right. There are other considerations though. Are you going to count retirements, death or layoff as part of turnover? Have two turnover rates, one which includes these and one which doesn't? Have rates by company, department, supervisor etc. etc.

Monthly turnover: The number of total separations during the month divided by the number of employees who worked during or received pay for the pay period that includes the 12th of the month.

Annual turnover: The number of total separations for the divided by average monthly employment for the year

Having worked in a state DOL agency for some years, I KNEW you sounded like you had DOL in your blood, and then I spotted the credit you gave them for the formula. They can do just about anything except provide meaningful and timely labor market information, like salary surveys. They just can't get it right. But they can darned sure require/request us to death for our info. x:-)
