I am posting this message in the hopes that some of you may work in my part of the country -- the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area. I have been notified that my position is being eliminated in four weeks. I am currently HR Director for a multi-location company, and have been with them for over 20 years. If any of you have any leads you can give me, I would very much appreciate it. It has been so helpful to have this forum to use as a sounding board and reference point for the last couple of years. Keep it going strong. With any luck, wherever I land, I will have access again. All of you do great work!

  • No longer in your neck of the woods, just wanted to let you know I'm sorry about your lay off! Will be thinking good thoughts that you find something quickly!
  • I hope they will reconsider. How in the world can a 'multi location' employer survive without an HR Director? Don't tell me they're rolling the duties into Accounting, a really dumb move. I'm not in your area but wish you luck.
  • Wellllll, they are "pushing" many of the responsibilities down to the operating property level. There is still going to be a HR Director -- white, male, under 40. Get my drift?
  • I am sorry to hear that and will keep you in my thoughts. I am not in your area either but will let you know if I hear of anything. Good Luck!
  • Hi Dottie,

I'm in your neck of the woods (work in downtown, live in Kentucky...) There is a personnel agency downtown called Columbia Personnel who recruits for HR jobs, including high-level. Their number is (513) 762-7682. You'll see their listings in the Enquirer job section every weekend. I haven't used them personally but they seem to have a good reputation around town. The Angus Group in Walnut Hills placed me in a benefits position five years ago. I was very impressed with them at the time, and they are still around. Their number is (513) 961-5575.

I'm losing my job too, but not until the end of March, 2003. (I am a pension administrator for a private company.) The company who bought us has agreed to give us three months to work with Lee Hecht Harrison, outplacement specialists. I am very impressed with them so far and have heard all good things from others who have used them. Their number is (513) 891-0666. They're located in the Kenwood area. They are not recruiters, so I would imagine there would be a cost associated with their services, but it can't hurt to call.

Also don't forget the local universities -- if you graduated from any of them, you can use the alumni offices as a good resource.

Good luck! If you want to contact me personally, my e-mail is 'jdavis@riverbarges.com'.

Thank you so much. I will certainly follow up with Columbia and Angus and will keep Lee Hecht Harrison in mind. My employer has offered me assistance in finding a position, however, I still want to initiate contacts on my own if possible. I will be in touch. Good luck with your change of employment next year. I wish you well.
