Commute home vs hotel stay

What is the normal distance most companies use in determining whether an employee travel home or stay in a hotel. We have an employee who is needed to work a temp job but would travel 114 miles daily, give or take, through a metropolitan area. Need some answer as soon as possible. Thanks.

The answer may be clearer if you do that. Seventy miles one-way is pretty severe. It might be different if you allowed the commute on company time and paid mileage.

We have sales representatives located throughout the country. Their travel policy states that hotel expenses will be covered for travel outside a radius of 50 miles from their home.
